Description:
Semi-glazed terra cotta circular plaque depicting a portrait profile of queen and raised hands and arms holding a crown and shield with lion. On May 15, 1940 Holland was occupied. These plaques (see TD1989.289.1) were done for a Spitfire fund (like war bonds) while the Dutch East Indies were free. They were propaganda to lift morale and raise money to buy Spitfires.
