Description:
Oil on canvas painting of artist's wife, Mary, having her teeth X-rayed with faint image of woman in background; artist had originally painted a portrait of subject, Mary, on the same canvas but did not care for it so he painted Mary X-Rayed over it; years later the portrait underneath had burned through, upon restoration of the piece the artist chose to allow the image to remain as it had bled through, in a way appearing as an x-ray and adding interest to the painting.
