Description:
Oil on canvas painting depicting large central nude male figure flanked by portraits, foliage, defoliated tree; self-portrait of artist spanning across the canvas depicting the aging process; cog wheels, politicians, the church are represented at bottom. Per vendor interpretation, imagery depicts: Upper corners: the artist's parents. Top, center: the almighty. Center: man idealized Grouped around the central figure: 11 self-portraits of the artist from birth to death. Between idealized man's legs: the city. At base: religion, politics. Two giant cogs that bear not only the obvious allusion to work and productivity, but as well suggest the wheel of fortune. The lily, as symbol of life, hope, resurrection; the gnarled tree as both opposite of and counter to the lily.
