PROGRAMS

Guided exhibition tours every Thursday and Friday at 6pm. Free gallery admission on Fridays from 6–9pm with the generous support of the Miami Herald. All programs take place at The Wolfsonian, unless otherwise noted.

WOLF BOOK CLUB
Be a part of The Wolfsonian’s book club! We explore literary works whose subjects are relevant to current exhibitions and collection themes. Participants are expected to have read the selection in its entirety and have toured Art and Design in the Modern Age prior to the discussion. DOROTHEA LANGE: PHOTOGRAPHS OF A LIFETIME
by Robert Coles (2005)—Photographer Dorothea Lange is best known for her documentation of the Great Depression. This book combines a selection of one hundred of her photographs with a biographical essay by Pulitzer Prize–winning author Robert Coles. Moderated by Alex Lichtenstein, professor, Department of History, FIU.

PAGE AT A TIME EXHIBITION
—What do personal conflict, child labor, and global warming have in common? Books. Not the kind of books you find in a typical bookstore, but unique, student-created works that explore the broad theme of conflict and resolution. Page at a Time is an innovative arts education program developed by The Wolfsonian for fourth- through sixth-grade students. The works of students from Dante B. Fascell, Myrtle Grove, South Pointe, and Southside elementary schools, and Shenandoah Middle Museums Magnet School are on display in the museum’s lobby. Free.

“THE BIG SELL: COLLECTING PROPAGANDA”
Leonard A. Lauder, chairman of the Board of The Estée Lauder Companies, art collector, and philanthropist, discusses his interest in collecting and preserving “propaganda arts.” A selection of works from Mr. Lauder’s recent gift to The Wolfsonian of U.S. Second World War posters and ephemera is on view in the fifth floor galleries. SECRETS OF THE DEAD: THE HUNT FOR NAZI SCIENTISTS
(2006, USA, Mark Radice, 56 min, b&w and color, DVD)—At the end of the Second World War, U.S. and Russian forces rushed to recruit the top Nazi scientists in the hope of gaining access to new technologies for high-tech airplanes, sophisticated rockets, and even, perhaps, a German atomic bomb. This race marked the beginning of the Cold War, which would last for the next forty years.

INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY
—Join The Wolfsonian and fifteen other local museums in celebrating International Museum Day. In honor of the event, The Wolfsonian offers several promotions including free gallery admission and a ten-dollar lunch special at The Dynamo Café. In addition to gallery exhibitions, view the lobby exhibit of handcrafted books created by students from six Miami-Dade public schools as part of The Wolfsonian’s Page at a Time art education program.

Wednesday, May 21, 7pm
 WOLF PACK DESIGN NIGHT
—Join the Wolf Pack for a tour of the happening Upper East Side of Miami. The evening begins at the Upper East Side Garden, followed by cocktails, a round of mini golf, and a lively discussion on urban development and renewal in Miami. Afterward, the group heads to Uva 69 for dinner and conversation. Cocktails graciously provided by Rubi Rey Rum. Beer provided by Grolsch.
