(LO & BEHOLD) (MIRA & VE): An installation by Lawrence Weiner

Ongoing
The Wolfsonian–FIU @ 1001 Washington Avenue

Originally produced as part of a larger, site-specific installation for Art Basel Miami Beach 2006, Lawrence Weiner’s piece (LO & BEHOLD) (MIRA & VE) has become a permanent fixture of The Wolfsonian’s iconic lobby fountain. Like much of Weiner’s oeuvre, it is grounded in language and a mix of common signs—recognizing Miami’s diverse culture and its large Hispanic community through the incorporation of both English and Spanish.

Weiner delves into symbolism carried by text, exploring the interaction and application of punctuation, shape, and color. His artworks embody the complexity of simplicity, and are cultural signposts of their time. Fabrication is a critical aspect of his process, and over the years it has taken various forms: in film and video scenarios, as songs on records and CDs, as cartoons on DVDs, on posters, books, multiples, and editions, as well as the installations for which he is perhaps best known.

(LO & BEHOLD) (MIRA & VE) was generously supported by Kate and Andy Spade and Asset Management Advisors.
